What Gets You Failed
Failing civics test (less than 6 of 10): USCIS can retest. Failing English portion: retest offered. Failing character assessment (lies discovered): automatic denial. Citizenship fraud: permanent bar.
The Retest Process
If you fail civics or English: USCIS automatically schedules a retest (4-12 weeks later). You don't reapply; they re-interview you. Most people pass on the second attempt (88% pass rate second try).
Between Attempts
Study harder. Focus on your weak areas. If civics: drill the 100 questions. If English: practice speaking and listening daily. If character: consult a lawyer if there are issues. 4-12 weeks is enough time to prepare.
If Denied
USCIS issues a Denial Notice explaining why. If it's removable (not about character): you can request administrative review or file again later. If character-based: you may need to wait years or get legal help.
