The 3-Year Rule Explained
If you're married to a US citizen, you can apply for naturalization after 3 years of Green Card status (instead of the normal 5 years). Must have been married to the same US citizen for the entire 3 years and living in the US.
Requirements for the 3-Year Track
Your spouse must be a US citizen (not just Green Card holder). You must have been married to them for 3 years continuously. You must live in the US. You must still meet all other requirements (English, civics, character).
Timeline Advantage
Standard track: 5 years Green Card + 8-12 months processing = 6+ years. Marriage track: 3 years Green Card + 8-12 months processing = 4+ years. You save 2 years by this route.
What to Document
Marriage certificate, tax returns (filed jointly), evidence of living together (lease, utility bills, insurance), correspondence between you two. Build a timeline of your marriage. USCIS will verify everything.
