Canadian Charter protects political opinion. You can hold any political belief: liberal, conservative, socialist, communist. Doesn't affect citizenship.
Exception: Illegal Activity
Beliefs alone: protected. Criminal acts: not protected. Difference between 'supporting socialism' and 'committing fraud.'
