Residency Requirement
You must be a permanent resident and have been lawfully resident in Australia for at least 4 years immediately before applying.
During this 4-year period, you must not have been absent for more than 12 months in total, or more than 3 months during the final 12 months.
Character Requirement
You must satisfy character requirements. This means no serious criminal convictions in the past 10 years.
Language Requirement
Demonstrate competency in English. This usually means:
- Completed primary education in English
- Passed IELTS at band 6 or higher
- Or other approved English tests
Knowledge Requirement
Pass the citizenship test covering Australian history, government, and values. 20 questions, 75% pass rate required.
Commitment Requirement
Make an oath or affirmation to Australia, including commitment to values and laws.
